St. Martin's Guild was started in the 1980's in order to help struggling individuals or families who were in need of food. Presently, it consists of a small group of parishioners, under the leadership of the Pastor, who provides assistance where needed on behalf of the parish, using money collected in the St. Martin's Guild Sunday Collections.
Members purchase and deliver food to people with emergency food needs within our parish boundaries, to both parishioners and non-parishioners. When delivering food, members provide information about community resources where further help can be obtained and information about our church to non-parishioners. At Christmas time approximately 60 food hampers are prepared & delivered to families who could use some assistance.
St. Martin's Guild also provides financial help in other areas both within and outside our parish community. Families from our parish needing assistance with Catholic School Tuition are given a helping hand. Financial support has been given on behalf of our parish to Pro-life, Birthright, Luke 15 and Sancta Maria House, along with regular support for seminarians and for mission churches in the Chilcotin/Shuswap area.
St. Martin's Guild also oversees 2nd collections for disaster/famine relief and forwards the money to Catholic agencies providing relief in the affected areas.
